The exams for more than 15,000 first-year undergraduate arts and commerce students of Mumbai University’s Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) are starting from Monday.

However, IDOL uploaded hall tickets on its website only at 1 pm on Saturday, putting students in dilemma.

Students were kept waiting for the hall tickets till Saturday. One of the reasons for this delay, claims committee member of Yuva Sena Sainath Durge, is that MU-affiliated colleges don’t provide classrooms to IDOL to conduct exams for their students, which is why hall tickets are uploaded late.

Almost 1,800 students will be appearing for exams on Monday at the varsity’s Kalina campus because of lack of enough centres.

“IDOL students’ strength is 76,500. MU-affiliated colleges doesn’t provide examination centres for IDOL students. So, every year IDOL has to wait till the last minute. MU should have a permanent solution to this. MU should take an undertaking from affiliated colleges mentioning that they will provide colleges for IDOL students’ examinations.”

Officials from IDOL said, “IDOL will remain open on Sunday to correct technical problems related to hall tickets uploaded on Saturday. We have sent the tickets to students via mail and informed them through messages.”
