Father gets 5-year rigorous imprisonment for molesting daughter, 3-year jail term for aunt

The sessions court in Mumbai on Monday convicted the father and a paternal aunt of a 12-year-old child after the two were found guilty under the stringent Protection Of Children Against the Sexual Offences Act (POCSOA) charges. The two were arrested by the Shahu Nagar police after the 12-year-old approached her neighbour and complained of her father molesting her. The father was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment, while the aunt was awarded three years of imprisonment for aiding the crime.

On February 2, 2014, the father of the victim came home in an inebriated state and molested the child. When the child complained of her father's behavior to her paternal aunt, she had turned a blind eye to the complaint. It was then that the child informed her neighbors who then took her to Shahu Nagar police station and had accordingly registered an FIR.

The child's mother had divorced her father was staying with her father as he used to torture her every day. The child used to stay with her father and paternal aunt in the house when the incident occurred.
