It is that time of the year when everything is set to sparkle. This Diwali give your house a polished and painted look by making a few changes to your home décor. Furniture and furnishing shops all across Navi Mumbai have not only unloaded their new collection but also have offers and discounts to attract customers.

“Although it is Diwali and most shops have a new collection, attractive discounts and offers are what attract people,” said Muddassar Bangi, store manager of Reliance Living, furniture and furnishing store in Vashi.

He added, “We have slab offers up to 30% in furniture in which new models of recliners and sofas have come in. In furnishings we have up to 60% discount and there are ready-made curtains available in colours suitable for the festival with a variety of patterns.”

Elite Living, a home décor showroom located in Koparkhairane, has choicest variety in furnishings including curtains, upholstery, bed linen, among others.

Aarti Sharma, director and design consultant of Elite Living said, “Curtains are generally a simple furnishing tool that can be used to elevate the look of dull and colourless rooms.”

“We have latest designer fabrics based on brocade borders, viscose and lurex yarn, embroidered and embellished fabrics, leatherite cut work on sheers and nets, burnt-out and crushed velvets, luxurious linens, embossed fabrics, gold and silver foiling fabrics. Even colours in these fabrics vary from the very basic neutrals to the magnificent pastels with a dash of maroons, burgundy, crimson, teal and aqua,” she added.

Sharma, who is also an interior designer suggests to involve innovative tweaks to your home décor in order to get the festive look.

Following are her home decoration tips that will help you transform your abode this Diwali:

1 Create a feature wall: Highlight one wall in your living room or bedroom with a beautiful wall covering that suits your home décor and hang a beautiful painting to create a focal point in the room

2 Stretch space with mirrors: The trick is to create an illusion of space and depth to hallways and landings. Here, you can either go for a big mirror or group of mirrors with a console table

3 Sophisticated Shine: Accentuate your home by clustering aromatic candles in the bathroom and flameless tea light candles on the console mirror and in a few corners in the house

4 Revamp old sofas: Get your old furniture refurbished with some plain textured fabric in earthy shades or just place some vibrant coloured cushions with crystals, sequins, brooch, embroidery work to add glamour

5 Attractive seating: For that beautiful and homely space, you can add a couple of puffs which do not require too much space in your living room and also make for an attractive yet comfortable seating when you have guests over. These puffs can be in floral prints, abstract prints, clutter prints in a revved up mix of bright palettes of red, yellow, fuchsia and midnight blue

6 Classy look with curtains: You can choose to change your curtains that complement the upholstery, paint and wall-coverings of your home décor. Patterned or embroidered curtains with floral motifs are eye-catching. Or you can choose simple yet sophisticated geometric patterns in bold or thin striped curtains. Plain fabrics like silk, satin, velvet give a classy yet bling look with a border horizontally or vertically at ends where the curtains meet

7 Enhance dining table décor: Add vibrant coloured runners on your dining table, pick up a few antique or matte finish napkin rings, in gold or silver and add carved wooden trivets and coasters

8 Personal touch: Assemble a few of your favourite family photographs in frames of different sizes but the same pattern; be it walnut wooden frame or a silver frame. Create a collage by placing them together on preferably a feature wall (see first point) and add a personal touch to the décor
