Cops make the right noise through pamphlets

Ahead of the festival season in the city, the Azad Maidan police have started issuing pamphlets to Mandals and citizens in residential societies to curb noise pollution before and during festivals. Police are appealing to citizens to keep a check on the decibel levels as per the directions given by Bombay High Court, and have also issued a warning of strict action if rules are violated.

Considering the noise pollution during festivals, citizens have been appealed through the pamphlets to avoid playing loudspeakers in their building premises, or any public place. They have been asked to not create any noise in silence zones, and have been informed that sound decibels should not exceed the limits set by court in industrial, commercial and residential areas.

According to the orders given by the Bombay High Court, loudspeakers, musical instruments and fire works cannot be played between 10 pm and 6 am.

According to the police, they are appealing Mandals, Mohalla committees and other citizens to make sure that these rules are not flouted. The police said that if any society or anyone individual is found flouting the rules of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control)Rules, 2000 then a case can be registered under Environment Protection Act, 1986.
