Compile yearly profit, loss statements of bus routes: CIC to BEST

The state chief information commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad, has ordered the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport to compile a yearly profit and loss statement of each bus route and put it up on its website. The BEST has to do this as suo motu declaration, under the RTI Act by January 31, 2014.

Even though BEST has been offsetting transport arm losses by charging consumers using its electricity, it had no compilation of the yearly figures of the most profit and loss making routes. The reason, BEST said was because they have been making profit and loss statements of route on a monthly basis.

Other information, dna had sought to know, were the details of 20 routes that make the maximum loss and profit, and the action taken on the loss making routes. The commission directed BEST to give information under section 4 of the RTI Act. “The information that has been asked pertains to every bus service,” said activist Bhaskar Prabhu.   

BEST GM OP Gupta said, “If the commissioner has ordered it, we will put it up.”
