"Khatiya khadi ho gayi uski" roughly translated as "even his bed stood vertical" to describe a fear-struck moment may soon be part of some of the anecdotes that will find their place in the Bhendi Bazaar Research Academy (BBRA).

Announced in a press conference by Urdu Markaz, those organising the second Bhendi Bazaar Urdu Festival, BBRA will archive areas literature, community and social changes and architecture among other things. The press conference was held at the Press Club of Mumbai on Tuesday.

"We have already started work on it. Two months later, we will be coming out with a white paper or document that will give details, based on which further study and contribution from people can be asked," said Zubair Azmi, director of Urdu Markaz, while talking about the festival that will be held between January 8 and 10 from 5 pm to 10 pm.

"Slowly, changes have crept into the area and things are disappearing or changing. We would want to document them," said Azmi.

Though called Bhendi Bazaar, the festival talks about the culture of Urdu that is spread in various other localities. "Similarly, the research academy will document the lingua-franca of people that differs in Dongri, Nagpada, Mominpura or Madanpura. By the way people talk, we can describe which area they are from. We want to get all that into it," said Azmi adding, "it will be like a capsule which will give all details."

"Museum of photograph, another plan, is already being worked upon. We are asking people to give photographs that they are throwing away. We have already got one of 1902 of the area. We're looking for more photographs and details. The area had several BIT-type chawls where it is stated that Vinod Kambli's father also stayed," said Farid Khan, chairman of the programme committee of the festival.

Khan added: "We want to document the different communities that once resided this area."
