Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday announced that a full day's salary will be paid to constables for working on a day off. Fadnavis was reacting to a dna report, which said that a police constable from Nanded had written to the CM, bringing his attention to the fact that a meagre Rs68 was given as allowance to constables for working on a day off.

Constable Vishwanath Nampalle, who has been posted with Hadgaon police station for the past three years, had written in his recent letter that as per labour law, if a person works for eight hours then he is entitled to get a full day's pay. "And if duty is done on the rightful day off, then why should a day's wage or additional wage not be paid? If we work on an off day then is it different or more comfortable as compared to the other working days during the week? In this regard, have you ever communicated with the home minister or the related department?" Nampalle had asked in the letter. dna on January 3 reported about Nampalle's letter.

On Saturday, CM Fadnavis, who attended the Police Department's annual musical event Umang in Andheri (W), stated during the event, "We are secure because police do their duty day and night. That is why they are unable sometimes to take holidays. Taking this into consideration, we have decided that policemen who work on their day off will get a full day's salary."

"The entire constabulary of the Maharashtra police force will benefit from this decision. I am thankful to the chief minister for it," Nampalle told dna on Sunday.
