With an aim to spread the knowledge and for the love of books, the Book-Exchange Club of Mumbai has decided to donate over 5,000 books to various NGOs in the city.

The three and a half year old book exchange club has a library in Goregaon which they recently have decided to shut down. The library had a collection of non-fiction, fiction books of various genres.

Speaking about the collection and the library, Deepak Gupta, founder of Book-Exchange Club of Mumbai, said, "Many books were collected from the members of the club while, few of them were collected by donation camps. Over 5,000 books related to various genres such as romantic, thriller, drama, adventure, mystery, horror and few comic books to name a few. The books are in three different languages—English, Marathi and Hindi. The library was started one-and-a-half-years ago. But due to decreasing readership we are not able to run the library for long."

Till date there are 1,800 members in Book-Exchange Club of Mumbai. They organise meets once-a-month at various locations such as cafés, open spaces with an aim to gather book-lovers and exchange thoughts, and discuss books with other book-lovers. The club has members from all parts of the city, as well as the outskirt areas. Besides, the library also has an initiative called take a book, leave a book, in collaboration with a city based café.

On October 4, the club decided to search for NGOs who are interested in keeping the books for their library project.

"So far we are in talks with two NGOs and are bifurcating the books according to their demands. We are also looking to reach out to other NGOs and spaces that are willing to take away the books as a charity so that other book-lovers can read them," said, Gupta.

Any NGOs willing to take away the books can email them at bookexchangeclubmumbai@gmail.com
