While the state government is gearing up for the three-day Magnetic Maharashtra Summit beginning on Sunday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to exhibit Mumbai’s ambitious coastal road project in the event.

The 29.22 km long coastal road project, extending from Marine Drive to Kandivali, has been estimated to cost around Rs 15,000 crore. The civic body has formed a 20-member team who will share details about the project during the summit to attract investments as it does not want to bear total cost.

“Coastal Road project is one of the most ambitious projects of BMC. It will not only make commuting easy but also create lakhs of jobs in the years to come,” said a senior official associated with the project.

The state government is expecting to get nearly 4,000 investment commitments worth Rs10 trillion which would create an approximate of 3.5 million jobs. “The civic body is part of the state government and any investment coming to BMC is part of the state government vision,” the official added.

The BMC has made a budget provision of Rs 1,500 crore for financial year 2018-19, out of the total cost of 15,000 crore.

The coastal road project was previously delayed due to various reasons including environmental concerns. Currently, the bidding process is in the last lag and the work is likely to start by April.
