There was chaos at the Bandra metropolitan magistrate’s court on Wednesday when the Bandra police brought Mohammed Ismail Ansari alias Mohammed Badshah, who was arrested for allegedly raping a 27-year-old Spanish national in her Bandra house and robbing her, covered in a burqa amid tight security.
“Has a celebrity been arrested?” “What is the case?” onlooker asked.
Pleading innocence, Ansari denied all allegations levelled against him by the police.
“Maine kuch nahi kiya hai, sir. Mujhe pata nahi mujhe kyun arrest kiya gaya hai. Sir, maine rape nahi kya, ye sab galat hai (I have done nothing, sir. I don’t know why I have been arrested. I have not raped anyone, this is all wrong),” Ansari told the magistrate with folded hands.
But the court remanded him in judicial custody till November 9 as the police requested the court for the same because they have to initiate the identification parade as the victim would leave for Spain in a few days.
“We are yet to recover the stolen goods and clothes of the victim. This is necessary to bolster our case. Once the identification parade is done, we shall request the court for Ansari’s police custody,” said an officer from Bandra police station.
Before bringing Ansari to court being brought to court, Ansari was taken to the Nagpada police hospital for his medical examination.
“Ansari is proving to be a tough nut to crack. He is giving vague replies to our questions making it difficult for us to carry out investigations. We did not find any of the stolen items in his house,” the officer added.
The Bandra police have also registered a case of house break-in against Ansari as he had stolen Rs6,000 and mobile phone from Neela D’souza’s house before he broke into the Spanish woman’s house.
