Taking a dig at road maintaining agencies in the city like Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), and Public Works Department (PWD), the Reliance Infrastructure led Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) has come up with a social media post that states, “Avoiding potholes has become a dreaded part of commute.” It has further appealed to the public to opt for the ‘Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro-1 corridor’ for a safer and smoother ride.

The post is part of MMOPL’s ‘Smooth Metro ride’ campaign. On Tuesday, the official account of Metro-1, tweeted, “Injuries and accidents due to potholes are a common occurrence in our city. Relax and travel a safer and smoother journey with Metro.”

Similarly, in 2016, MMOPL had taken a dig at BEST’s bus services saying ‘Bus Hua’. The campaign asked commuters to ditch the long bus queues and opt for Metro instead.

The MMOPL, that time, had said that the campaign merely aimed at creating awareness about using Metro services and each form of transport must strive to provide better services.

However, MMOPL was not available for comments on Tuesday. Interestingly, MMOPL is in a legal tussle with both the MMRDA and BMC over increasing ticket prices and waiving civic tax for MMOPL.

The 11.40 km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) alignment with 12 stations is the eighth densest metro corridor in the world and has helped reduce travel time from 90 to 21 minutes. The train services on this corridor started on June 8, 2014.

Three years after its inception, Metro-1 reached the mark of carrying 30 crore passengers, last month.

Sena seeks action for pothole song

Shiv Sena corporators from Dadar have submitted a letter to BMC chief Ajoy Mehta and sought action against a private radio channel for airing a song that describes the pathetic conditions of city roads. They have asked the BMC to file a defamation case of Rs 500 crore against the channel. With a fresh spell of rains, potholes have appeared at many places such as the area near Shiv Sena Bhavan.
