The Gamdevi police have found two sets of fingerprints in the Aston Martin which was involved in a mishap on Peddar Road in the early hours of Sunday.

The police said that after conducting a thorough check-up of the interiors of the luxury car, they found two sets of fingerprints. They will be checking if any of the fingerprints match those of Bansi Joshi (55). Joshi, reportedly a driver with the Reliance Group, approached the police a few days ago, claiming he was behind the wheel when the accident took place.

Joshi told the police that the security in-charge of the firm had occupied the seat next to his in the luxury car and the second set of prints could belong to him.

The police also said that they had not issued any show-cause notice to anyone as stated in some media reports. They are taking the help of forensic and fingerprint experts to ascertain who was driving the car.

The police also said that they would be getting Joshi’s mobile phone records and tracking his cell phone location to ascertain whether he was indeed where he says he was at the time of the incident. They will then try to corroborate his statement.

The accident took place around 1.30am, when the Aston Martin (MH01-BK-99) was being driven from Peddar Road toward Haji Ali at high speed. The driver allegedly lost control and rammed into an Audi (MH14-DN-6666) that was in front of it.

As soon as it hit the Audi, the front right wheel of the vehicle came off and the Audi crossed over the divider and hit a luxury bus. The Aston Martin continued to move further on three wheels and hit into a Hyundai Elantra. The driver of the luxury car fled from the spot as soon as the vehicle came to a stop.

One of the victims, Smriti Mishra, had earlier alleged that the police were doing a shoddy job with the investigation. She had said, “While we were the ones who were injured and in shock, they were more interested in knowing the condition of those in the other cars. It appeared that they were going by the cost of the cars. They started off with the Aston Martin and then went on to the Audi without even glancing at our vehicle (the Hyundai Elantra), which was also wrecked.”
