Arms and ammunition found dumped in garbage near Masjid Bunder

Two country-made revolvers and 26 live cartridges were found in a garbage dump near Masjid Bunder railway station on Wednesday.

As per the MRA Marg police, sweepers were cleaning the garbage dump located between two buildings at Mohata Market, near Masjid Bunder railway station on Wednesday night. While doing so, they found a plastic containing something. Suspecting foul play, they decided to open the bag and found two country-made revolvers and 26 lives rounds in it.

The sweepers immediately called the police control room, following which the MRA Marg police was informed. The police have taken the firearms in their possession.

Ashok Jadgale, senior inspector of MRA Marg police station said, "The firearms are in our possession. We have registered a case under sections 3 (licence for acquisition and possession of firearms and ammunition) and 25 (punishment for certain officers) under the Arms Act."

Police are now trying to find out who could have dumped the firearms there. They are in the process of questioning the locals and history sheeters in the area. "There is a good possibility that the firearms had been ordered from somewhere and hidden here so as to be taken out later," said a police officer.
