Bogged down by his ill health, a 38-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself at his flat in Kanjurmarg (E) on Sunday. Police recovered a suicide note from the spot, wherein the deceased said that he took the extreme step as he was unable to cope with the limitations on his non-vegetarian intake as a result of his ailment.

The deceased, identified as Nagesh Namdev Kolte, repaired refrigerators for a living. As per the Kanjurmarg police, Kolte was suffering from high blood pressure. A police officer from the station said: "In his suicide note, Kolte said that he was suffering from high blood pressure and could not deal with restrictions on his diet, such as abstaining from eating non-vegetarian food."

Kolte lived with his wife and mother at Bhalchandra Co-operative Housing Society. His wife had gone to her maternal home, while he had asked his mother to live with their relatives for a few days, stating that his friends were to be visiting.

The incident came to light at 10.30am when his nephew, who lives nearby, broke open the door and found Kolte hanging from a hook on the ceiling. The police recovered the suicide note from his possession that disclosed the reason behind his extreme step, police said.
