Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Thursday that the pattern in the killings of anti-superstition activists Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare and writer MM Kalburgi is apparently the same. Fadnavis added that investigating agencies are analysing the ballistic reports in Pansare's murder, after which the pattern in his killing will be ascertained.

"The Dabholkar incident has been investigated by the CBI, while the Maharashtra police is investing Pansare's killing and the Karnataka police is conducting an investigation into Kalburgi's death. Apparently, the pattern in all the three killings is the same and that will be ascertained once the final ballistic reports come out. We are committed to nabbing the culprits and are confident that this will be done soon," Fadnavis said.

He added that he condemns such gruesome acts. "We will not spare anyone. The investigation is on the right track. We are committed to keep the progressive traditions of Maharashtra alive. Both these activists and writers worked in their respective fields to increase awareness in society," the chief minister said.

Congress MLC Sanjay Dutt said that his party welcomes the chief minister's statement, but the delay in investigations is raising suspicion. "It has been years since these incidents, but the investing agencies are still grappling in the dark and it also needs to be probed if they are doing so deliberately. If the culprits go scot-free for a long time, then it shows that the BJP government is supporting such killings," Dutt said.

Lok Bharati MLC Kapil Patil alleged that the BJP government is only buying time. "They are not showing any seriousness about the investigation into the murders of these great activists and the writer. No one will digest that three people had been killed with the same modus operandi and the government is still clueless about the case. The BJP government itself supports (the killers') ideology, so we have little expectation from this investigation. It is a pattern of fascism. They kill or suppress the voice of intellectuals so that other sections do not raise their voice. They do not want rational, progressive and scientific thinking. They want to replace history with mythology and philosophy with theology. However, we will not let that happen. We have to protect the traditional pluralistic social fabric of our country," Patil said.
