In a bid to aggressively tap the Indian market, Uber has started accepting cash payments in New Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata from Wednesday.
Bhavik Rathod, GM, Uber Bangalore was quoted as saying, "We're thrilled to enable cash as a payment option for our riders today (Wednesday), especially on a day when commuters across India might find it difficult to get around in their cities (due to the strike)." Uber Delhi GM said that they are looking to ensure that passengers are not stranded in roads.
Uber is currently offering this service in 22 cities and according to media reports, it will be soon extended to Mumbai also. It has also abolished surge pricing in Bengaluru and Delhi between 7pm and 9 pm.
