Ratan Tata invests in Coimbatore-based electric vehicle start-up

Riding high on the investment drive, Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, has now invested an undisclosed amount in a Coimbatore-based electric vehicle start-up company. This move comes soon after he tied up with Google and Intel to launch the 'Internet Saathi' program to bring the internet to more and more women in rural India.

Ampere manufactures economical electric scooters, e-cycles, e-three wheelers, customised e-vehicles for the differently-abled, and EV chargers. It currently has dealers in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Ampere, founded by Hemalatha Annamalai, will use the funding to increase the company's operations and hire more talent over the next two years.

So far, the company has been funded by Forum Synergies and Spain's IMI Investments.
