The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) caught a female Income Tax (IT) officer red-handed for accepting bribe in Bhopal.

The arrested officer has been identified as Poonam Roy, who is a 2007 batch IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer. She was held along with her husband Ganesh Malviya who acted as a mediator.

Apparently, Roy had demanded a bribe of rupees 2.5 million from a construction company builder on account of settling his tax returns.

Reportedly, the builder filed a complaint with the CBI about money being demanded to settle the penalty and he had claimed that he had been paying his tax regularly.

CBI then set up a trap and caught the duo red-handed with rupees one million at their residence during late night.

CBI has claimed that this is likely to be the biggest investigation against an Indian revenue service officer in central India.
