What does it take for one to and make a change in society? Simple! Go ahead and just make it! For that is what 11 women from Mumbai decided to do, using their collective strengths. And thus Sahachari Foundation was established. In its second year, the organisation is set to unveil a couture collection on March 2.
Gauri Pohoomal, one of the founders of Sahachari, feel that the ability to garner the right interest and raise funds is motivating.

“We come from a space of being privileged, from the nicest sense of it. And being privileged that way we want to give back, not just by having someone sign a cheque, but creating interesting programmes and events to raise funds to help people,” says Gauri.

This year the funds from the show are to go to the Victoria Memorial School for the Blind as well as the BSPCA (Bombay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

Sheila Bhogilal, who works with the BSCPA, admits the foundation created by them was ‘a natural progression of things to come’. She says, “Some of us have been working together for the last nine years doing various exhibitions. We’re hoping things get bigger and better soon.”

The designs to be showcased at Samsaara, are a Spring/Summer Collection. Designer Nandita Mahtani will be presenting dresses, tunics, jumpsuits on the day. "It's an easy to wear line, nothing with too much bling," she says. It's Nandita's first association with Sahachari. "I hope to build that relationship," she says.

Designer Cherie D, for whom actor Katrina Kaif is a regular patron, has created a cocktail line. "I’m showing light shift and chiffon wrap dresses, razor back tops and more," she says, while for designer Delna Poonawalla, "It was inspiring to work on the line, which is a fresh palette with whites and peachy
yellows."
