In her new book, The Awakened Leader, Joan Marques ignores corporate jargon and shows us the path to success

A person aiming to be the perfect leader need not look any further. 'The Awakened Leader: One Simple Leadership Style That Works Every Time, Everywhere' has all the dope on how to acquire leadership skills. For one, it is extremely well-organised and systematic. The book has been divided into 10 chapters, each of which has been further divided into sub-topics. This makes it easy to assimilate all the information.

This book is not just for CEOs and corporate leaders; there's something for everybody - school children to team leaders at a call centre. Simply put, the information can be used by anyone.

The book covers all the aspects of being a leader - working with a team, learning from others, learning from yourself, what to do, what not to do, et al. It guides with the help of examples from daily life, and in doing so does not alienate the reader.

Another plus point is that you can pick it up every time you're faced with a crisis situation. You're sure to find a precise solution to your problem. So, in a way you can cheat - you don't have to read the book in its entirety.

The drawback, however, is that it reads like an instruction manual. Instead of becoming one with the reader, the author has taken the role of a teacher. While this might work for some, others might get tired of the 'how tos' after a point and leave the book mid-way.

But for those who have the patience to read to the end, there are a plenty
All in all, the book is definitely worth a read for all those who aspire to be a leader.
