INCREASE YOUR VITAMIN INTAKE
Vitamins may seem trivial but are actually essential for the body to work smoothly. If one doesn't have adequate amounts of iron and zinc, it can result in weak nails. A basic multivitamin usually does the job, but it also helps to check for severe defeciencies. Vitamin B complex containing biotin is often cited as important for nail health. Biotin can also be got through ceratin foods such as oatmeal, bananas, mushrooms, peanuts and soy. Often pregnant women have a biotin deficiency, which can lead to birth defects. Ensure you eat a healthy and well-balanced diet.

TREAT THEM WELL
Getting regular manicures is fine but make sure you keep your cuticles: They're important for nail health. Also let the nails breathe from time to time, don't keep them covered in polish 24/7. Those who are in the habit of using finger nails to open tins, text on the mobile or do other tasks, should avoid this. Your nails should be treated with care and keeping them regularly trimmed is helpful to avoid peeling or breakage.

LACK OF MOISTURE
Just like the other body parts, the nails need to be well hydrated. Ensure you are drinking enough water on a daily basis. Also make sure the nails and skin around it are moisturised. Daily washing of hands with harsh hand gels can cause dryness. Opt for a good hand cream and use at least thrice daily. One can also try a home remedy, like a mix of egg yolks and milk. Opt for a super moisturizer that is rich in vitamin E, avocado oil and shea butter.

NAIL STRENGTHENERS
Nail polishes need not add colour or shine to your tips. Many brands have nail hardeners and strengtheners that contain vitamins and minerals to improve the nail health. They help protect the nails especially from drying varnishes. Also keep a check on your nail polish remover. Some can contain harmful ingredients. Avoid acetone or toluene, all of which can harm nails.

PROTECT YOUR NAILS
Keeping your hands well-protected from the elements can help with the nails' health. Wear gloves, if exposed to harsh winters and also if washing dishes, scrubbing floors or doing any handy work. Office work, like continuous typing, can be hard on your hands. Also ensure that your nails are clean at all times and have not picked up any fungal infections.
