It is no accident that you’re here. No accident that you’ve found your way to this page. Life has brought you to this precise moment...” reads the first line of Discovering Your Soul Signature by Londoner Panache Desai.
The introduction passage of the book goes on to make you feel that everything you have been doing in your life so far and all your quests about its mysteries have all culminated to this very moment. It’s a miraculous moment when you have been handed over this book and now it will only take 33 days to find your true self, claims the book.

We laboriously went through these exercises, only to find some good things and some don’t-even-bother-with chapters. If you know about the basics of your spiritual body (soul for some), you probably know that like a lotus (or onion for some), our true personality is shrouded in layers of emotions, influences, baggage, beliefs and other factors that we have picked up over the years. These either block us from blooming into a beautiful being or, if tapped well, can actually help bring out the best of what we really are or can be.
In Desai’s words, Discovering Your Soul Signature is a book that sets out to help you find your soul’s true signature or your spiritual DNA in just 33 days. Neatly divided into (predictably) 33 sections, each chapter tackles one emotion at a time. Titled fear, sadness, anger, guilt, shame, self-judgment, ego, addiction and likes, each lesson wants to help you resolve issues one at a time.

Feeling almost as if we were prescribed timely pills by a spiritual doctor, we set out on this journey following it up day to day. The protocol for dealing with everything is the same – three sub-chapters and three rituals to be followed at three precise timings of the day – morning, evening and night.
These short passages written in a poetic format are nothing but inspiring discourses that want to help you shed superficial negative emotions. While many self-help books on the same subject give readers specific advice and guidance as to how to reach their claim, this one confuses us to some extent.
Fortunately, in some instances Desai reveals doable meditations to invite light into your life or attain deep focus, but some of his text is simply motivational talk that you can read before bed time and forget about the next day.

While we really liked the tangible exercises like taking a day off and consciously accepting it with its fluidity or jotting down all the things you feel passionate about during the day, or treading lightly and enjoying the radio in the car as opposed to focusing on the maddening traffic. Some passages that try to alter your mental state by asking you to repeat self-inspiring affirmations such as ‘you are deserving’, ‘you are complete’ or ‘you are worthy’, are jejune and vapid.
