As we battle work and personal commitments to make time for ourselves, friends and family, it leaves us with hardly any time to actually sit down and plan for a weekend-break or a day out.

Step in twitter handles that not only keep you posted about events around town, but also offer you the best deals online. It’s the new way of planning your weekend with just 140 characters.

Twitter v/s listings in print
Twenty-six-year-old, Shruti Saian entrepreneur and freelance writer says twitter handles have changed the way we source our information, today. She adds, “I follow mumbaiboss,
mumbaihiker, bpbmumbai, mumbaimag, bombiltimes, timeout_mumbai as they keep me posted about events in the city. Having all the information you need online helps you plan things fast without wasting too much time.”

Ritesh Sidhwani, an active social media addict adds, “The best part about these handles is that they try to strike a balance between entertainment, news and relevant information. Unlike newspapers, this is all available on real time, so you not only get to see what’s on in the city, but also get an idea of what to expect because you have people talking about it.”

140 characters is all you need!
Afsha Khan co-founder of the popular Twitter handle BombilTimes, adds, “When we started out in April, last year, we noticed that the print media was focusing on finding what’s new in the city.

We wanted to strike a balance between listing what’s new and cool and what’s old and yet interesting. We introduced a hashtag system for each day of the week, to allow people to click on it to find out what events were on in the city on that particular day.

We are aware that most people visit us while on the go. Hence, it’s important to provide all the information like time, venue and other details in a concise format, so that they don’t waste time looking it up in another browser. You get all the information you need to plan your weekend in 140 characters.

We have noticed that people have started planning in-between weekends. Hence, we try and list varied events that we think are cool and yet will appeal to different kinds of people.”
