After scrapping the Rajasthan Teachers 'Eligibility Test (RTET), the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) conducted the second Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers (REET)-2017 peacefully across the state on Sunday.

In the exam, 92.43 percent candidates appeared in the first session in the morning and 91.75 percent were present for the afternoon session.

During the examination, a candidate was arrested in Behror for cheating using a Bluetooth device and another person was held in Jodhpur. The BJP had announced in the Suraj Sankalp Yatra, the party’s manifesto for the assembly elections 2013, that the RTET would be scrapped. After this, the BJP government introduced the REET examination in 2016. This year, the responsibility for organising REET was given to the RBSE.

The exams were conducted across 2253 centres across the state. Keeping in view the security and confidentiality of the examination, internet services were restricted in four districts of Bharatpur division.

Before the examination began on Sunday, there was a rumour that a copy of the second-level exam was available on the social media. But the RBSE denied the claims. Minister of Education Vasudev Devnani congratulated the RBSE for conducting the REET in a seamless manner. Devnani said that the process of appointment of 35,000 grade-III teachers will start soon.

Special arrangements have been made to prevent cheating in the exam. For the first time, mobile jammers were installed at the examination centres. Apart from this, CCTV cameras, videography and a three-level flying squad were available for smooth conduct of the exam. Monitoring of the examination was done from the REET control room in Ajmer through 10,000 CCTV cameras installed at various examination centres across the state. RBSE president Prof BL Chaudhary said that the State government had entrusted the board the responsibility of organising the REET and RBSE came out with flying colors.

“For the past few days, conducting this examination was a major challenge in view of the frequent leaks of question papers. But with the cooperation of the State government, the education department, home department and the police, the board has met the challenge,”said Choudhary.

RBSE secretary Meghna Chaudhary said that by Monday morning, the answer scripts will reach the board’s office from all the remote areas of the state. Proper security arrangements have been made so that no tampering takes place on the answer sheets,” said the RBSE secretary.

    LEAK RUCKUS

The city’s social media and local media houses went into a tizzy on Sunday after there were rumours that papers of the Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers (REET) 2017 had leaked. However, chairman of the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) BL Chaudhary denied such claims while speaking to DNA.

    BLUETOOTH SAGA

Despite elaborate arrangements to avert cheating, one REET aspirant still managed to slip in a bluetooth device in his attempt to cheat. But, the vigilant invigilators at the examination centre succeeded in foiling his attempt and the examinee was nabbed. However, vigilant teams took several measures to keep a tab on it.

    FEUDAL MEANS

To prevent candidates from resorting to unfair means during REET examination, even today age-old feudal measures like taking off scarves and dupattas are adopted by authorities before allowing examinees to enter the hall. In addition to this, those who came wearing or carrying valuables were asked to remove them.

    FRAUD CASES

A man was caught giving examination instead of his nephew in Jaisalmer during the Rajasthan Eligibility Exam for Teachers (REET) held on Sunday. The person held is himself a Grade-III teacher. The police arrested both the offender and the actual examinee. On the other hand, a person absconding in a cheating case was caught  giving REET exam.
