Three years ago, Jodhpur jeweller filed a case of fraud in the Ratanada police station against the Punjab National Bank scam accused Nirav Modi’s maternal uncle Mehul Choksi.

The case was logded on the court’s order but the police registered a civil case (mutual transaction).

On February 11, 2015, a case was lodged in the Ranada police station on the report of Shishir Jain, resident of Ratanada Ajit Colony. In this, Jain had said that he has a firm named Jain Jewellers in Anchal Complex situated on his residency road. After seeing the showroom on the city’s main location, Rahul Veera of Gitanjali Jewellery Retail Ltd, Neeraj Joshi, Gili India Ltd, and Gitanjali Gems Group’s M.D. Mehul Choksi approached the complainant’s father.

The accused introduced themselves as makers of diamond jewellery and said they sold their products in different places in the country. They encouraged Shishir’s father to take a franchise. They also lured him by saying it’ll bring big profits. Before this, Shishir had a business of branded readymade garments. After fixing things on phone, Choksi and Rahul Veera arrived at his residence in Jodhpur and said that their own brand is superior and demand is high in the market.

They said that the price of Gitanjali shares is Rs 650 and they can get bigger profit if they start doing business together. On this, Shishir’s family made a franchisee agreement by giving Rs 3 lakh separately. They sent Rs 1.80 crore to Gili India and gave Rs 3 lakh from cheque on February 11, 2011.

Initially, it was decided to keep Rs 1.80 crore as security deposit and the same amount of jewellery was given to the showroom. The deal was that they will give Rs 2.55 lakh per month at the rate of 17 percent to Shishir. Due to lack of knowledge of the diamond business, he could not understand the inferior quality of jewellery being sent by the accused.
