Another army drill in Thar desert

Thousands of troops from the Corps are taking part in the exercise along with a huge array of weapons and equipment. The troops are braving the sweltering heat in the Thar desert and undergoing intensive training.

Close on the heels of the South Western Command’s (SWC) Strike Corp’s recently concluded exercise Vijay Prahar, another war exercise has been initiated in the deserts of Mahajan Field Firing Range near Suratgarh. However, this time, the Chetak Corps of the SWC is conducting the exercise that has been named Gandiv Vijay. Based in Kota, the Gandiv division is carrying out the exercise based on the central role of carrying out offensive operations.

The exercise will see a battle being played out in network-centric environment while employing modern intelligence related data, surveillance, reconnaissance concepts and equipment. Moreover, the same joint air-land operations would also be played out during the exercise according to the mission objectives laid out for the Corps.

The exercise will conclude on May 23  as an integrated exercise involving multi-mode mobilisation from dispersed locations to the time and place of decision in a terrain orchestrated on the lines of operational responsibility of the formation. The participating formations will carry out synergistic employment of long range vectors along with the infantry and mechanised forces and the air arm to achieve a decisive victory.
