Alert cops prepare for worst case scenario in Jaipur

On Wednesday morning, it was a scene straight out of an emergency situation at Crystal Palm mall when scores of policemen, members of bomb disposal squad, dog squad, emergency services, fire brigade and senior cops rushed to the mall when news was received that a bomb had been planted there. The authorities screened the entire mall area and finally found a box covered with wire, thus successfully addressing and negating the threat.

A mock drill had been organised at the mall wherein the scenario of a bomb planted by terrorists was played out. “The time was around 11 AM and people were shopping at the mall when suddenly four fire tenders reached the spot blowing its alarm. Before the people could understand anything, they were asked to get out of the mall. Meanwhile, police teams accompanying the fire tenders cordoned the area and dog squad teams started scouting the area.

Bomb disposal squad also reached and started screening the shops and every possible place where the bomb could be kept to inflict maximum damage. This created excitement amongst people, however, they were then told that it was a mock drill that was being conducted to gauge the response time of authorities,” officials said.

Interestingly, the information about the bomb was provided in the control room which in turn informed senior commissionerate officials. “While the area was being screened, one of the dogs signalled at a dustbin. The bomb disposal squad was then asked to direct its machines to the bin and with the help of robots, a package was taken out of the bin. This proved that our training parameters are good,” officials said, further adding, “However, we still keep playing out such scenarios to increase our efficiency.” After the bomb squad gave a green signal that the mall was safe, the people were allowed to enter.
