At a time when the entire country is celebrating Durga and worshipping the girl child as a part of the ritual in Navratras, Jodhpur woke up to the terrible news of rape of a three-year-old girl. The little girl was abducted and later raped by the accused who was caught by the police the same day within a few hours.
According to police, the incident was reported at the Raika Bagh railway station on Wednesday night. Railway police officer Ravindra Bothara said that Jogi family of Madhya Pradesh was waiting for the train at Raika Bagh Railway Station on Wednesday night. “The parents said they had fallen asleep on platform no. 1 at the station. When they woke up, their baby girl was missing,” he said.
The search for the girl began. After looking for the girl at every corner of the station, when she couldn’t be found, the family members reported their daughter missing to the Railway Police. Following their complaint, a team of railway police was immediately dispatched to scan the nearby area.
“During the search, our team found the baby girl lying in the thick undergrowth,” a police official said, adding, “the girl was taken out of the vegetation and immediately rushed to the Umaid Hospital in critical condition.”
While the girl was being hospitalized, the remaining team members of the railway police continued to look for the accused. He was found lying under the Raika Bagh over bridge in front of the KN College, not far from the site where the little girl was recovered by the police.
The accused has been identified as Rajkumar Bhil, a resident of the Barni village in Bhilwara district. Police took the youth in custody for questioning. “He admitted to the crime. He said that he had picked the girl who was lying by her mother’s side around 11 pm from the railway station,” a police official said. After his confession, the railway police arrested Rajkumar and slapped him with charges of abduction, POCSO Act and rape.
