Three opposition councillors of Arachalure town panchayat threatened to commit suicide, alleging that no developmental works had been carried out in their wards
 
The councillors - two of AIADMK and one from DMDK opposed a resolution brought forward by members at yesterday's panchayat meeting for sanctioning road work at a cost of Rs 50 lakh in Kannathampalayam and suggested the funds be used for important works in their wards.

But the meeting chaired by Sulochana Shanmugasundaram, anounced all the resolutions have been passed and reportedly
   
Irked over her act, the three climbed atop a nearby 50 foot overhead tank and threatened to jump down if their demand was not acceded to.

Police and members of the public rushed to the spot, pacified them, upon which they came down. Panchayat officials assured them that their demand would be taken up at next month's meeting.
   
Not satisfied over this, the trio again climbed on top of the tank. they came down after they were informed that the Assistant Director of Panchayats, Erode, would conduct a meeting today to sort out the issue.
