Tax convention begins today

The direct and indirect tax committees of the ICAI, in conjunction with the WIRC of the body, have organised a two-day national tax convention.

The direct and indirect tax committees of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), in conjunction with the Western India Regional Council (WIRC) of the body, have organised a two-day national tax convention, which will begin on Saturday, in Ahmedabad. The event will be hosted by the Ahmedabad branch of the WIRC at Sindhu Bhavan on SG Road.

More than 1,000 delegates from across India are expected to attend the tax convention, which will feature noted chartered accountants speaking on topics of day-to-day importance to this field.

Experts from Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Mumbai are expected to deliver lectures on Saturday. Padmachand Khincha from Bangalore will speak on ‘Tax deducted at source’, while Mayur Nayak will speak on ‘Cross-border transaction of goods and services, and its impact on tax’.

Ahmedabad-based senior advocate Saurabh Soparkar will deliver a talk on ‘Rule of evidence under direct tax laws’. Kishor Gheewala from Surat and Biharibhai B Shah from Ahmedabad will speak on ‘Audit under Gujarat VAT’.

Also, Dr Girish Ahuja from New Delhi will deliver a lecture on ‘Business expenditure, current development including Sec 14(A), depreciation, interest, bad debts, software expenses and Sec 43(B)’. Mumbai-based chartered accountant AR Krishnan will speak on ‘Service tax intricacies’, while chartered accountant Mahesh Sarda, former chairman of the direct tax committee of ICAI, will speak on ‘Block assets — Sec 50’.

Dhinal Shah will deliver a talk on ‘SEZ - tax intricacies’, while government nominee and commissioner of customs, R Sekar will deliver a lecture on ‘GST — goods and service tax’.
