Swine flu suspect dies in Orissa

A man suspected to be suffering from swine flu died in the city while nearly 200 children with symptoms of the virus have been put on medication.

Local businessman Pradeep Bundia died yesterday while being shifted to Apollo Hospital, Ranchi, official sources said today.

Bundia was earlier admitted to Ispat General Hospital (IGH) with high fever and suspected symptoms of swine flu.

Even as the hospital authorities sent his swab samples to Bhubaneswar for test and awaiting the report, the family members of Bundia started decided to shift him to another hospital.

Last month an ENT doctor of SAIL's Kiriburu mines, A K Burnwal had died in New Delhi after testing positive for the virus.

As many as 100 swab samples have been examined in Sundergarh district, out of which nine have been diagnosed as positive, the sources said.

The suspected flu cases, which were first reported at Jampalli Girls High School on October 27, spread to other pockets of the district later.

Health officials said nearly 200 school children suffering from viral fever and showing symptoms of swine flu have been given Tamiflu.
