Sheila Dikshit lauds efforts of state minorities commission

The chief minister said the prime minister was taking keen interest to ensure reasonable opportunities to the minorities.

Chief minister Sheila Dikshit today lauded the efforts of Delhi Minorities Commission for effective monitoring of government schemes meant for ensuring welfare of the minority community.

She was speaking at a function organised by the Delhi Minorities Commission to mark the UN Minorities Rights Day.

Dikshit said the commission took a unique initiative in association with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) in creating mass awareness about prime minister Manmohan Singh's 'Rozgar Yojna' regarding loans to minorities in the urban and rural areas.

The chief minister said the prime minister was taking keen interest to ensure reasonable opportunities to the minorities.

Kamal Faruqui, chairman of the Delhi Minorities Commission referred to the prime minister's 15-point programme for welfare of minorities.

The commission conducts studies research and analysis in order to make recommendations to promote socio-economic upliftment of the minority community by holding seminars debates and the discussions.

The commission also presented the first copy of the Annual Report of the year 2007-'08.
