Valsad city received around 3.5 inch rainfall in the past 24 hours. Umargam taluka in Valsad received 5.5 inch rains, while Pardi received 4.5 inch.
Heavy rains lashed Valsad and Tapi districts in South Gujarat on Monday even as other places in the region reported a ‘dry’ day.
Officials in the flood control department said that Valsad city received around 3.5 inch rainfall in the past 24 hours. Umargam taluka in Valsad received 5.5 inch rains, while Pardi received 4.5 inch. Kaprada and Dharampur talukas recorded four and one inch rainfall respectively. However, no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the district.
The tribal dominated district of Tapi also received between one two inch rainfall on Monday. Officials said that Songadh received around 1.7 inch rain, while Vyara received 1.3 inch. Uchhal recorded just over an inch rain while Valod and Nizar received half inch each. The weather department has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of South Gujarat over the next 24 hours.
Except for some light showers during the night, no rainfall was reported in Surat city during the past 24 hours. Except Umarpada, which received 4 mm rainfall, the other talukas in Surat district also recorded nil rainfall in the period.
However, owing to yesterday's rains and cloud cover, the temperature during the daytime fell significantly. The maximum temperature in Surat city was 30.2 degree Celsius on Monday as against 37.9 degree on Saturday. The minimum temperature on Monday was 22.8 degree as compared to 27.6 degree two days ago. The water level in Ukai dam rose slightly to 324.14 feet. However, it is still quite a way off its total storage capacity of 345 feet. Navsari city and surrounding talukas received between one to five mm rainfall in the past 24 hours.
