Continuing his visits to rural households, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi spent the night in the house of a villager in Kansapur in the district and had food with locals.

After attending the state coordination committee meeting in Lucknow yesterday, the AICC General Secretary went to mingle with people of his constituency in the village in Sangrampur block last evening.

Rahul spent the night in the house of Awadhesh and Seema Srivastava and had food with a number of locals which included many Dalit women, a Congress leader said.

During his interaction with the villagers, Rahul blamed the Uttar Pradesh government for the state's backwardness and asked the people to give Congress a chance to develop the state.

"People of the state need a government, which works for development of the people of all castes and creed. People need overall development of the state and not of parks only", Rahul said, while talking to villagers.

The Amethi MP, who has undertaken such trips in the past to villages in his constituency, has been attacked by chief minister Mayawati for his visits.

Rahul had earlier spent a night in village Semara with his friend and British foreign secretary David Miliband in January.

He had also spent the night in Banpurva village in the district on May 17 and had food with self help groups there.

His visits to the village was a closely guarded secret by party men, who said Rahul did not want media presence as it created a problem in meeting people freely.

Rahul left for Delhi this morning.
