Ahmedabad: In another case of cyber crime, that has also brought to fore the dangers of net banking, an NRI couple lost Rs10,000 after someone withdrew the money from their account.

The US couple, Nilesh and Anshu Trivedi, has an account with the Axis Bank in Vastrapur and operate it using the NRI net banking system.

Indira Trivedi (61), the mother of Nilesh and a resident of Soumitra society in Jodhpur, filed a police complaint in this connection. The complaint states that someone withdrew the money from the couple's account on October 19, using the net banking system.

Nilesh came to know of the unauthorised withdrawal on October 23 and immediately informed the bank."Despite repeated pleas the bank refused to help us in the matter," said Indira Trivedi. The bank on its part said that it is not responsible for the incident.

"The bank is not responsible for the incident," said Lal Singh Pawar, vice-president of Axis Bank.He said that this could be a case of phishing. Indira, meanwhile, said that the bank is trying to pass the buck. "We suspect that some bank employee is involved in the matter," said Indira.

She said that after repeated pleasthe bank officials finally told them that one Azeez Khan from Thane had withdrawn the money from Borivalli.

The bank also provided them the phone number of Azeez Khan. "All calls to the number go unattended," said Indira. She has also said that the Vastrapur police had earlier refused to take their complaint.

She said they finally managed to lodge a complaint with the Vastrapur police station on November 26 after an IPS officer intervened in the matter.

Indira is the authorised signatory from India for the bank account. She is a retired employee of AG office."My husband and I have retired. So, our son had sent us Rs1 lakh of which Rs. 10,000 were siphoned off. Neither the police nor the bank officials have bothered to co-operate with us in solving the matter," said Indira.Vastrapur police is investigating the matter.
