Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh today told a Delhi court that the Delhi Police has failed to trace the source of money, which was waved by BJP MPs in the Lok Sabha during the 2008 trust vote, and said there was "absolutely nothing" against him in the cash-for-vote scam.

Seeking bail after appearing before special judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal, Amar Singh said their are only circumstantial evidence against him and the source of money, which is the most important link in the case, is not known.

"The only thing against him (Amar Singh) is circumstantial evidence. There is no link that from where the money came. There is nothing to show that either Amar Singh gave money or gave instructions (to anyone) or the money was given at his behest. On merits, there is absolutely nothing in this case," said former Additional Solicitor General Amrendra Sharan, appearing for Singh.

The defence counsel said the prosecution case is a "zero merit case" and there is high probability that the accused would not only be acquitted but may even be discharged at the stage of framing of charges.

Pressing for interim bail, the defence counsel also said even the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee, which examined the alleged scam, had concluded that no offence was made out against Amar Singh.

He said seriousness of his client's health condition too cannot be denied. He submitted that the Delhi Police did not think it fit to arrest Amar Singh during the investigation.

The counsel said that their is no apprehension that Amar Singh would tamper with the evidence or abscond to avoid prosecution in the case.
