Bhopal: A two-day national seminar was organised here on the life and various other aspects, including the political and educational career, of veteran freedom fighter late Maulana Abul Kalam Azad by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) New Delhi.
Renowned Islamic scholars, orators and also professor Akhatrul Wasey, head of the Arabic department of the Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, expressed their views on the contribution of Azad in the field of education and freedom struggle in India.
Being the first education minister of India, Azad had contributed a lot to the field of education and sketched a framework for the education system, Wasey said.
Azad was a great visionary and emphasised the need for giving priority to strengthen the primary and secondary education among all communities to boost the country's independent era.
"Azad was not only a great politician but a good litterateur, great orator, dashing journalist, poet and a real patriot," Wasey said.
"The Maulana was also a religious leader and educationist, and a leader of commanding stature," he said.
Azad had never compromised on his principles, and he advocated common culture among various communities.
