A jewellery shop owner in Maninagar has filed a complaint of cheating with Ghatlodia Police station after being allegedly duped of Rs10 lakh by two persons. Mahendra Patel of Harishri Jewellers in Maninagar filed the complaint after allegedly being cheated by Manish Patel and his niece who purchased jewellery worth Rs10 lakh but did not make the payments.

The duo, after making a series of purchases from the shop since last Diwali, developed a close bond with the owner and cashed in on the trust to fleece Patel. The pair first purchased jewellery last Diwali worth Rs 6000 and paid the amount in cash.

The two again bought two rings worth Rs. 8700 in January but did not make the full payment. The remaining amount of 6400 was paid on January 11. Similarly, the two purchased four gold chains worth Rs 33,170 from the same shop and four bangles totalling Rs40,000 and to gain the confidence of the owner, paid the amount immediately.

A final purchase of Rs. 10 lakh was made on January 31 by the two without payment. When Patel tried contacting the two to remind them of the payment, he was shocked to find the contact details provided were false.
