The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport had an embarrassing moment on Monday morning. They detained a well-known jewellery designer and daughter of painter Satish Gujral for allegedly carrying unaccounted jewellery, on the basis of the information which eventually turned out to be false.

According to sources at the airport, designer Alpana Gujral, who also happens to be a niece of former prime minister IK Gujral, landed at the airport on an Indigo flight. She had come to city to participate in a jewellery show organised at a hotel in city.

"Gujral along with her secretary and another aide was detained by the AIU officials soon after she landed at the airport from Delhi. The officials suspected that she carried unaccounted gold and other valuables," sources said.

Sources, however, said that officials were embarrassed after checking the materials Gujral brought with her. Sources said that she had a list about what she had got with her and most of them were imitation jewellery.

Sources said that the officials did not find anything suspicious. They checked her luggage and questioned her for nearly an hour but to no avail. The information which was passed on to AIU from Delhi was wrong.

Alpana Gujral is one of the leading jewellery designers of India and her collection is quite famous in US, UK, Dubai and other countries across the globe. She is also well-known for her high profile clienteles list around the world.
