The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Thursday, alleged before Gujarat high court that the state government was not giving co-operation to it in the probe of Sadiq Jamal encounter case. After the hearing, Justice MR Shah asked the government to file a report on the infrastructural facilities given to CBI.

The high court was hearing an application filed by the CBI seeking six months' extension to conclude the investigation in the controversial encounter case. Giving grounds for delay in the probe, the CBI counsel alleged that the state government was not providing infrastructural facilities. Moreover, the CBI has conducted few scientific tests related to the incident but the report is likely to arrive late.

The counsel further said that Mumbai-based journalist Ketan Tirodkar, a prime witness in the case, had filed a petition before Bombay high court, seeking direction that CBI shall not summon or interrogate him in connection with the case.

Earlier, Tirodkar had filed an affidavit before Gujarat high court that Sadiq had met encounter specialist police officer Daya Nayak through him for some help. However, Nayak handed over Sadiq to Gujarat police and later on he (Sadiq) was killed in an encounter.

Justice MR Shah of Gujarat high court had entrusted the probe to CBI after Sadiq's brother Shabbir alleged that his brother was killed in a staged encounter. The HC had asked the central agency to conclude probe within six months, which ended on January 15.

Sadiq was killed by the DCB in Naroda on Jan 13, 2003. Shabbir alleged that his brother was killed in a staged encounter conspired by then DCB chief PP Pandey, then DCB DCP DG Vanzara, who is also a accused in the Sohrab  encounter case, PI Tarun Barot and other cops.
