Delhi police today claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle thieves allegedly involved in more than 50 incidents who used stolen government vehicles to commit the crimes.

Three persons were arrested and twelve stolen luxury cars were recovered from them, deputy commissioner of police (south) HGS Dhaliwal said. They operated in various parts of NCR, Chandigarh, Haryana and UP.

Sagir, Aftab and Sanjay were arrested on December 13 from near Huzrani on a tip-off. According to Dhaliwal, Sagir told police that they have stolen vehicles using duplicate keys, and disposed of them through one Dara in Punjab.

"They used to first steal government vehicles and further commit more thefts of luxury vehicles by using that stolen government vehicle," he said.

Sagir is the alleged kingpin of the gang, and he was previously involved in several cases of auto-lifting in Delhi and UP. He is a master in making duplicate keys in a very short span of time," Dhaliwal said.
