Five students of Andhra Pradesh University today launched `fast-unto-death' here to protest the Centre's decision to create a separate Telangana state. To support them, several other students decided to hold relay hunger fasts.

The Centre's decision evoked massive opposition in this port city with students and common people coming out on the streets in large numbers in protest.

The agitators blocked vehicular traffic at 24 places, staged sit-in at eight places and 'rail roko' at two places, city police commissioner N Sambasiva Rao told PTI. The protesters also pelted stones at a few trucks and a BPO centre, he said.
