A software engineer from Surat who was living in a rented apartment in Bodakdev area died on Monday after he was electrocuted while trying to switch on the geyser.

The deceased, Kinjan Ajudia, 24, a resident of Vrundavan society on Ved road in Surat, was living in the city for last few years. He was employed at a private firm here and stayed at a flat in Naman apartment opposite Judges Bungalow in Bodakdev, which he, along with two other partners, had taken on rent.

Ajudia was alone at his home as one of his room partners had gone to office, and another to Pune. A friend of Ajudia, Ram Mendpara, who lives in the same building, came to meet him in the afternoon, but left when Ajudia didn’t open the door. Mendpara heard water running in the bathroom and left thinking he may be having his bath. However, when he returned later, Ajudia still did not respond despite repeated knocking.

Mendpara informed neighbours, who helped him open the main door.  They saw the bathroom door locked from inside and after breaking it open, found Ajudia lying on the floor, unconscious. They rushed him to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. Vastrapur cops registered an Accidental Death (AD) complaint and started investigation.

During probe, the police realised that the geyser was too old and worn out and guessed that Ajudia may have been electrocuted when he switched it on. Since there was no one in the house, he couldn’t receive timely medical help too, which killed him, cops believe.
