The Congress plenary session in New Delhi began on an unpleasant note on Sunday. Repeated sound system failure left party workers and leaders frustrated, as organisers Delhi Congress could not do much but remain mute spectators.

All India Congress Committee general secretary in-charge of Bihar Mukul Wasnik was at the centre stage, but for all the wrong reasons. The repeated sound system failure provided Congress delegates from Bihar with a chance to vent ire against him.

On seeing him on the dais trying to revive the system, the group burst into anti-Wasnik slogans. They blamed him for “faulty distribution” of tickets in the state that led to Congress’ debacle.

The disgruntled bunch was later pacified by senior party leaders led by Oscar Fernandes.

The high-pitched sound system started making stuttering noises as soon as the proceedings began and went off twice when state leaders were addressing the gathering.

A visibly-annoyed Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit was seen rushing to the enclosure housing the control room of the system when it went off for a third time.

Later, Delhi Congress functionaries were at pains to explain to the media  the glitches.
