The son of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator from Uttar Pradesh opened fire at a resto bar here in broad daylight after an argument with its manager.

A senior police officer said: “Vivek Singh, the son of BSP MLA Chander Bir Singh, opened fire at the Mocha Bar manager. We have registered an attempt to murder case.”

“The bullet missed the manager and hit a wooden plank. No one was injured and Vivek fled the place,” he said. Vivek later surrendered to the police.

According to the police, Vivek’s sister had visited the bar for dinner on Tuesday, when she reportedly lost her wallet. The next morning, at 11.45, she went to inquire about it, accompanied by Vivek and his wife.

“As Vivek and his wife waited in their car outside the bar, his sister went in. She had a heated argument with the bar manager, who denied finding her wallet. She went out and informed her brother,” a police officer said.

“Vivek along with his wife and sister went in and had a scuffle with the manager. Vivek pulled out a gun and fired at him. Vivek fled the place, leaving his sister and wife behind,” the officer said.

Both women, who were detained by the police for questioning, initially denied knowing Vivek. The police said they were ascertaining the make of the weapon.
The bar authorities were not available for comment.

Vivek’s father, Chandraveer, said his son, daughter and daughter-in-law had gone to the resto bar to eat. “Someone misbehaved with my daughter. Following this, she slapped him. There was no firing,” he said.
