Sardarnagar police nabbed eight women who were gambling on Monday afternoon from Ambawadi. According to sources, police arrested these women on basis of a tip-off it received. Sources also said that all the women belonged to affluent families. Police officials said the women were wives of businessmen based in the Ambawadi area in Sardarnagar.
The eight include Sunita Senani, Hina Ahuja, Vidya Jaiswani, Maheshwari Aswani, Rekha Khatri, Rashmi Sirwani, Rani Sindhi and Sushita Tejwani. The police have also nabbed the kingpin running the gambling den from the spot itself. Incidentally, the den was being run by a woman who had been caught 10 times earlier, in different cases of gambling. Sources said that the woman, named Pushpa Bajaj, was nabbed from bungalow number 671 in Ambawadi from where she was operating the den.
Police inspector RB Joshi said that he raided the premises of the bungalow after he received a tip-off. He also said that the police seized Rs21,000 from the den and a pack of playing cards used for gambling. Police also said that Bajaj was a professional gambler and encouraged others to gamble in her bungalow.
