A national career counselling portal, which will inform youth about job opportunities through text messages on mobiles, will be launched soon, Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said in Hyderabad on Sunday.

The Union Minister for Labour and Employment (Independent Charge) was speaking after inaugurating a meet on 'Career Counselling and Skill Development for Youth' at an educational institute. The minister was quoted in an official release issued that employment exchanges all over the country would also get facelift soon.

"Job aspirants will get the required information instantly (through this portal)," he said in the statement. As per available data, only 1.9% of India's population has completed technical education or training, whereas in China, Japan and Germany this figure is more than 70%, 50% and 30% respectively, he said.

The Indian government has signed a memorandum of understanding with Germany to train Indian youth, he said, adding, this would enable the youth to get jobs in that country, it said.

"There are nearly a lakh government jobs available in the Telangana state government. Due to various reasons the recruitment for these jobs was not done. At the same time nearly 20 lakh jobs were available in the private sector in the state. Instead of looking for government jobs youth with proper skills can get employment in the private sector. They could also become entrepreneurs," he said.
