Controversy has erupted after MAEER MIT's Vishwashanti Gurukul school in Pune decided to regulate colour of innerwears of girl students. School administration has made it compulsory for all the girls students of the school to wear only white or beige colour  innerwears.

The school administration has also asked all the girls to wear bloomers every day. Apart from that, girls are allowed to wear only round studs not bigger than 0.3 cm on each earlobe.  These and some other guidelines are mentioned in the school diary given to students by the administration of Kothrud based educational institute. The issue came to light when group of parents of the students took objection against the school guidelines and met joint director of education. Based on the objections of the parents, Dinkar Temkar, joint director of education has ordered education board of Pune Municipal Corporation to conduct an inquiry.

In order to 'maintain discipline', the school authorities issue guidelines for all the students through a school diary which is given to students. There are some common guidelines for boys and girls while some guidelines are exclusively for girls. One of the parents on the condition of anonymity said, "Among the guidelines, the school administration has made it compulsory to wear innerwears only of white and beige colour."

The parents have also been asked to provide information about themselves by the school authorities. In the guidelines, it is also mentioned that the parents will face action under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) if the information provided by the parents found false.

When contacted Suchitra Karad- Nagare, executive director and trustee of the MAEER MIT group, she said, "We had received some complaints from girls students about comments passed at them. Taking cognisance of these complaints, we issued the guidelines which are for the safety of the students only. If any parent have objection, they should have directly come to us instead of going to media."
