Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took umbrage with the alacrity of BJP leaders to make foot-in-mouth comments as he asked party MLAs and MPs not to speak out of turn to the media on any issue.
The Prime Minister's remark came in the back-drop of controversial statements being made by the party men amid upcoming elections.
In a video chat with party lawmakers, Modi also asked them not blame the media for reporting their statements.
Certain things are hard, but needs to be told, said Modi in a nearly 2-minute message about speaking to media.
"Sometime, our workers say media does this..media does that, but have we ever thought that we only make some mistakes and give 'masala' to media persons as if we are intellectual. We rush to do an analysis of any big topic as soon we see camerapersons. It is not media's fault, we have to control ourselves. Only those who have a responsibility to speak, should speak to media. If everyone starts speaking, then the issue gets diverted and it affects the country, the party and our individual image," said Modi.

The Prime Minister also said that when the government was formed, 8-10 MPs had the habit of speaking, but after speaking to them, in last three years, they have not made any such remarks.
"We should not blame the media, media is doing its work. It is our responsibility that we should not get into every issue. Those who have responsibility will speak," said Modi.
However, even though the government is making efforts to address the issue of rampant increase in rape cases reported in India, Union Minister Santosh Gangwar courted controversy saying rampant incident in the country are unfortunate, but sometimes they cannot be prevented.
While speaking at a campaign meeting in Sulebhavi village a few days back, BJP MLA Sanjay Patil had said that the upcoming assembly election in Karnataka is not a fight for good roads or drinking water but is about Hindus and Muslims.
Earlier this week, reacting to 'Patgate', Tamil Nadu BJP leader S V Shekher said that one can't become reporter without sleeping with big shots. In a Facebook post, the leader also said the Governor should “wash his hand with phenyl” for having touched the woman journalist.
