VKSSS convener arrested after 'inticing' Uttar Pradesh workers to clash with police

Convener of Vidyut Karmchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti (VKSSS) has been arrested for allegedly inciting contractual employees of Uttar Pradesh power department to clash with police during their protest demanding regularisation of services, police said on Thursday.

Girish Kumar Pandey was arrested on Wednesday for 'inciting' workers who clashed with police and set afire vehicles on February 10 during their protest, they said.The contractual employees of the Uttar Pradesh power Corporation Limited, who were staging a sit-in demanding regularisation of their employment, clashed with police and went on a rampage and torched two vehicles - a police jeep and a motorcycle.

The employees were protesting under the banner of VKSSS. Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Gyan Prakash Chaturvedi fractured his arm during the clash.

Pandey has been sent to jail, police said, adding CCTV footages are being analysed to nab others responsible for the vandalism.
